A SACRED INVITATION
“Through brush and prayer, art opened the gates of Vatican City. A private Mass in the Vatican Gardens and an audience with Pope Leo XIV -- the first american pope -- became a living reminder that creative gifts, humbly offered, can be transformed into instruments of God’s glory.”

In this composition, I explore Mary of Nazareth as the pivotal figure who unites humanity's ancient longings with divine promise. The golden crown adorning her head speaks of her role as Queen of Heaven, while the white rose symbolizes her purity and the paradox of her motherhood: virginal yet fruitful, human yet touched by the divine. The presence of seven-year- old Eve alongside the infant Jesus creates a powerful theological dialogue that transcends time. Eve, representing humanity's first disobedience, is depicted not just in shame but in redemptive action—offering both the earth and the crucifix to the Christ child, embodying the moment when human choice becomes the instrument of salvation. Mary's lap becomes the sacred space where these mysteries converge, while her throne itself speaks to her universal reach. The subtle incorporation of symbols from various religious traditions within the throne's design reflects the Academy's vision of Mary as "the way of peace between cultures," acknowledging the deep human yearning for the divine that exists across all faith communities while pointing toward their fulfillment in Christ.
This work responds to the Academy's call by presenting Mary as the universal mother who serves as a bridge not only between heaven and earth, but between the various paths humanity has taken in its search for the sacred. In her maternal embrace, the ancient story of humanity's separation from God meets the new story of reconciliation, while her throne honors the authentic spiritual seeking found across religious traditions. Through this visual meditation, I invite viewers to consider Mary's continued relevance in our fragmented world—she remains the one who says "yes" when others hesitate, who trusts when others doubt, and who offers safe harbor for both divine purpose and human vulnerability. Her presence creates a pathway of peace that extends beyond cultural and temporal boundaries into the heart of our shared human longing for redemption, suggesting that true interfaith dialogue emerges when we bring our diverse spiritual journeys to the source of mercy and transformation.

AN AUDIENCE WITH THE POPE
Holly had the extraordinary honor of being named a finalist in a Vatican art competition hosted by the Pontificia Academia Mariana Internationalis. This recognition led to an unforgettable experience: attending a private Mass in the Vatican Gardens and joining a private audience with Pope Leo XIV alongside about 200 members of the Mariological society, where His Holiness personally congratulated the artists and gave us his blessing.
